Bonnie lived a few years in Ontario and then in British Columbia and finally in Georgia in the United States. She Studied Graphic Design at the Art Institute of Atlanta and returned to Edmonton where she worked professionally as a Graphic Designer for 20 years. In 2008, along with her family, she left Graphic Design to go to Mexico for 10 years where she volunteered with non-profits. During that time she taught art to disabled children and also at an elementary school at a Mexican orphanage. It was challenging and fulfilling all at the same time. She now creates abstract paintings of scenes and details inspired by nature.
Bonnie's process usually involves taking a photo of a natural scene or fine detail. She then reinterprets it with line art creating shapes, the shapes are then filled in with color and finally the original lines are gone over with black or white ink. Her style is constantly evolving and become more refined.
Ever since art college Bonnie has been searching for her personal style using various mediums and techniques. In 2019 inspired by the art of Princess Fahrelnissa Zeid she “found” her style, or it found her. In 2019 inspired by the art of Princess Fahrelnissa Zeid she “found” her style, or it found her. Her paintings are a reinterpretation of natural elements that she calls “Nouveau Abstract”; it is an abstract form with a hint of art nouveau. Line, shape, and colour, swirling together to create patterns, that are painted with gouache, and lined with ink on various surfaces. Inspiration is found outdoors - and it is everywhere. In the broad open vistas, and the minute details of a flower or an insect.
